About The 'Ohana

The ‘Ohana treats addiction and co-occurring mental health conditions with individualized, adventure-centric treatment. Their 5-acre property includes 3 homes—one for detox care, one for residential stays, and one for sober living. They provide a wide range of evidence-based and holistic therapies, including cultural therapies led by Big Island locals. The ‘Ohana also prioritizes adventure therapy to help clients regain self-efficacy and joy as they explore Hawai’i.

Comprehensive, Client-Focused Care

The ‘Ohana has a 2:1 patient-to-staff ratio. Their levels of care include residential treatment with detox, day treatment, intensive outpatient, and transitional living (or sober living). They provide 5 weekly process groups, 1-2 weekly individual therapy sessions, and family therapy as requested. The ‘Ohana’s evidence-based therapies include cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), psychodynamic therapy, equine therapy, and 12-Step meetings, along with other peer support groups like SMART recovery.

Multiple Levels of Treatment

The ‘Ohana’s residential program lasts as long as clients need, with typical stays from 30-120 days. They have designated work areas for executive clients and others who need to stay connected to work. Clients in day treatment can continue to stay at The ‘Ohana while attending treatment 6 hours a day, 5 days a week. Their intensive outpatient program (IOP) welcomes clients Monday–Friday from 8-12p.m. The ‘Ohana also provides sober living in one of their homes, which offers a safe, substance-free environment for clients transitioning back into independent living.

Adventures And Spiritual Connection

The ‘Ohana’s 12-week adventure program brings clients to volcanos, beaches, parks, swimming in the ocean with sea life, and much more. They also offer an 8-week cultural program, ‘Imi Ke Ola Mau, which connects addiction and mental health recovery with Indigenous Hawaiian traditions and practices. The ‘Ohana additionally treats co-occurring mental health conditions, including depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, trauma/PTSD and struggles with codependency. After treatment, clients join a group of alumni who connect each month. The ‘Ohana staff also check in with alumni and offer connections to local treatment and support once clients return home.
