This outpatient facility is a part of a large network of psychiatric care services throughout the state of Minnesota. The location in Edina specializes in outpatient programs for children, adolescents and adults. They offer partial hospitalization programs (PHP) for both children and adolescents with mental health disorders. Additionally, they offer an intensive outpatient program (IOP) and outpatient services for adults. Each year, they serve over 700 children and 200 adults with mental health concerns. This facility also specializes in offering innovative therapies like Air Water Earth (AWE) Therapy and Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS). AWE Therapy is a form of therapy they utilize in the summer months that supports connection with self, nature and others while also increasing opportunities for positive emotions and self-compassion. TMS is used for patients 18 years and older who have tried medication and evidence-based psychotherapy and continue to experience depression symptoms.
Each client that comes to PrairieCare receives a diagnostic assessment to ensure they are being treated adequately. Each client can access psychiatric care, individual therapy and family therapy while in treatment. The therapies that are used for children and adolescents in the PHP include art therapy and play therapy, among others. The length of the PHP and IOP varies from 3-12 weeks, depending on the progress of the client.
