About CooperRiis Mill Spring Campus

Set in the mountains of western North Carolina, CooperRiis has been helping those struggling with mental health issues like bipolar disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), dual diagnosis, personality disorders, and schizophrenia since 2003. Their treatment plan is grounded in traditional psychotherapy and group therapies, along with optimized medication use and education to guide their residents toward long-term recovery. CooperRiis employs different therapies, like cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). With 36 residents, there is an active therapeutic community to support each resident’s journey to recovery.

Though CooperRiis has multiple locations, the Mill Spring campus, or “The Farm,” is a 94-acre working farm with many walking trails, gardens, an art barn, and a lake. It’s a perfect setting for outdoor recreation, yoga, and mindfulness practices. Each resident gets their own private bedroom and ensuite bathroom for the duration of their stay. CooperRiis also involves family members through regular meetings and with individual recovery coordinators. Their mission is to focus on and improve the 7 domains of a healthy person:

  • Social/community/Connectedness.
  • Spirituality.
  • Purpose/Productivity/Fulfillment.
  • Empowerment/Independence.
  • Emotional/Psychological Health.
  • Physical Wellness.
  • Intellectual/Learning/Creativity.

CooperRiis is accredited by CARF. This location is private pay, with some services being reimbursable by insurance. Individuals may apply for a scholarship from the third month.
